WHY IS MODERN DAY WHEAT BAD FOR OUR HEALTH?

God before creating man had put everything in place for man’s comfort, including the RIGHT NOURISHMENT for man – Genesis 1:29.

Unfortunately , modern man has decided that God’s good isn’t good enough therefore a lot has been done to modify what we eat leading to serious health problems.
A typical example is WHEAT, an ancient grain ( Picture shown below) Psalm 81:16, Deuteronomy 32:14

Let’s look at what modernization has done :
1) Today’s wheat isn’t the same as the ancient God-given wheat!!! It’s been ‘Hybridized’ and ‘Cross-bred’ with other grains and species!  WHY ?
For higher yield.


The result is that the wheat is now high in Carbohydrate, most of which is Starch ( hence Pot-bellies and General Weight-gain ).

Also a higher level of Gluten which causes allergic reactions in the intestines and results in Coeliac disease. It’s been so bastardized that it’s causing a lot of chronic diseases.


Gluten is now modified gluten called Super-gluten . It damages the digestive lining, leading to Leaky-gut, causes Weight-gain , Diabetes and Auto-immune Diseases.

Let’s remember that 70% of our God-given immune system is located in the digestive area.

 

 

Modern wheat is now high in Amylopectin A which is now also a Super-carbohydrate. This Carbohydrate raises blood sugar faster than any Carbohydrate – Yet Doctors are recommending it for Diabetics . It’s the worst food for Diabetics.

Modern wheat is digested into shorter proteins called Exorphins which are similar to Endorphins .

These bind and stimulate morphing receptors in the brain and cause an addiction .

Wonder why you are addicted to bread and pastries ? THAT’S WHY !
Finally, the processing into flour just destroys it. They remove the Bran and Germ which are the most nutritious parts ( more than 20 Vitamins and Minerals are removed) to increase storage or shelf life . Good must spoil !!!

The Germ which the Bible calls the kidney of wheat is one of the richest sources of vitamins B and E, two essential fats and proteins.

The Bran is high in Fiber and prevents blood glucose from rising sharply, it is rich in proteins, some B Vitamins and Trace Minerals .

So what we get as modern flour from modern wheat is just the Endosperm that is loaded with the Super-carbohydrate, some Protein and some B Vitamins . The most powerful and nutritious parts have been removed and re-sold as health foods at exorbitant prices. They try to fortify it with a few vitamins and even the iron they add is impure and cheap and is contaminated with Mercury, Lead and Cadmium, horrible heavy metals in the body .

Do you wonder why Cancer is rampant and other Chronic Diseases?

When we alter the Creator’s design negatively the end result is bad.

Even the so-called Whole-wheat flour is nothing but White flour (bleached Endosperm) with a little added Bran.

To get ancient wheat we would need pure whole non modified grains grown organically and milled without anything removed.

HOMOCYSTEINE – The H-Factor

Being a nutritionist , nutritional therapist who is also a pharmacist of over 34 years experience,  I’m very passionate about health even as my Heavenly Father is !
There are so many illnesses out there that a healthy lifestyle can prevent or reverse. Today in our modern world with our modern day diet , chronic illnesses abound like cardiovascular disease , diabetes, metabolic syndrome , cancer, etc.

Medical science uses measurements like cholesterol levels , sugar levels , blood pressure measurement etc to monitor or predict our predisposition to these illnesses . However today I want to write on this relatively unknown subject or substance called HOMOCYSTEINE : the H-Factor which is a more accurate predictor of most illnesses.

Homocysteine is an amino acid naturally produced in our blood during methionine metabolism  via a key process called METHYLATION! However if there’s a genetic defect or problem with the breakdown of homocysteine , then there’s trouble !!!

High levels of homocysteine cause the following:

1)Damage the cells lining our arteries.

2)Increased incidence of blood clotting.

3) Oxidation of LDL – the bad cholesterol .

All these lead to heart disease . It’s homocysteine level that’s the better predictor of heart disease etc.

Homocysteine levels will predict your vulnerability to Parkinson’s disease, Alzheimer’s , Diabetes complications  , Cancer, etc .
It reflects the HEALTH OF YOUR GENES!!! Epigenetic’s now proves that we are not doomed by our genes. The food you daily eat modifies your genes for good or bad.

Our H-Score is more important than your weight, blood pressure, cholesterol levels . It’s THE MOST VITAL , PREVENTABLE AND REVERSIBLE HEALTH STATISTIC that medicine has discovered. Unfortunately it’s not being taken advantage of.

H – score is more accurate in predicting:

1) Heart disease, strokes than cholesterol levels.
2) Alzheimer’s better than genes.
3) How we age.
4) Our risk of over 50 diseases which include increased risk of premature death from all common causes.
5) How we would cope with the stress of life.
6) Vulnerability to CANCER – Research published by the New England journal of medicine using 45,000 pairs of twins found that cancer is more likely to be caused by diet and lifestyle choices than genes . Identical twins who were genetically the same had no more than 15% chance of developing the same cancer . This thus shows that most cancers are 85% environmental – diet , lifestyle and exposure to toxic chemicals . Cancer is triggered largely by damage to DNA and having a high H-score means your DNA is more vulnerable to damage  and poorly repaired once damaged . Forms of cancer now clearly linked to high H-score are: breast, colon and leukemia among others.

Unhealthy : above 15 ( 15-30)

CASE STUDY:
Mr X  Aged 56 started getting excessively tired, breathless, frequent headaches, eye pressure ( glaucoma). High blood pressure of 180/120 was put on 2 drugs that reduced it to 140/75 ( which is still above normal ) , plus stooped coffee, a few dietary changes .

However his H-Score was a massive 42.8 hence he was in the very high risk category . BUTTER OR MARGARINE (which one is better)?

Butter or Margarine? That’s  the big question!!! To answer this question we need to understand what exactly these products are.

What is butter and what is margarine? Butter is a natural  solid dairy product made by churning fresh or fermented cream or milk to separate the butterfat from the buttermilk while margarine  or spreadable is an unnatural imitation butter. Butter is real food and natural while margarine is an unnatural man-made and “chemicalised “product.

 

Margarine is made via a number of processes which include extracting  vegetable oil with nasty organic solvents like hexane (which is bad for the body) from corn, cottonseed, safflower, sunflower, soy etc. This is then followed with steaming to remove impurities, which destroys the vitamins and antioxidants; this also involves very high temperature which causes the oils to go rancid. Rancid oil destroys health.

 

Next they “force ” the oily liquid to become solid by bubbling hydrogen gas through it using nickel, a toxic heavy metal as a catalyst.  This is a forceful way of changing the natural unsaturated fatty acids to become saturated and solid . During this solidification process, harmful trans- fatty acids are created which are carcinogenic and mutagenic!!! Thus totally reversing what God and nature provided.

 

Emulsifiers, some of which have recently been going to be carcinogenic are added to remove lumps, then they bleach it to remove the grey colour. A second steaming is done to remove chemical odours. To complete the process they add synthetic vitamins , artificial colours and a natural yellow colour.

Butter on the other hand is natural. It’s one of the biblical healthy foods given in the scriptures. It’s simply made by churning milk made by cows to separate the milk from cream. The cream is vigorously churned until it thickens . The clustered butter is washed and formed into shape. In present day butter making are high in  one milk is separated from cream, the cream is pasteurised before more churning to remove bacteria . Salt may be added . The whole process doesn’t any chemicals , colours or bleaching. That’s a major difference between butter and margarine . The word margarine isn’t found in the scriptures nor was it known in the olden days.

Butter in the past got a bad name as being bad , then the food industry created deadly margarine!!! Butter was given a bad name  because it  contains  saturated fats and purportedly causes heart disease and other illnesses. The body needs both saturated and unsaturated fats. About 15% of of the fatty acids in butter are of the short and medium chain variety which aren’t stored in the body as fat. It used by the vital organs for energy.

 

 
Health benefits of butter include:

1.) It contains large amounts of butyric acid which the colon uses as an energy source and it’s a known anti-carcinogenic.
2.) Butter contains lauric acid (which is also found in coconut oil) whIch has antimicrobial and antifungal properties.
3.) Its rich in CLA – conjugated linoleic acid which also protects against cancer and helps the body build muscle instead of fat.
4.) Rich in vitamin D and the other fat soluble vitamins.
5.) Rich in trace minerals especially selenium, powerful antioxidant, zinc, copper, chromium, copper, and iodine.
6.) Rich in Glycospingolipids, a special class of fatty acids that protect against gastrointestinal infections especially in the young and elderly.
7.) Butter contains healthy cholesterol needed for the brain, intestines and nervous system.
8.) The saturated fats and nutrients in butter protect against asthma and infertility.

 

On the other hand, margarine has no health benefits but rather damages human health. The bad impact of margarines on health are because of the types and proportion of fats it contains; the composition of the fats in the vegetable oils and the unhealthy fats created during the process of manufacturing.

 

Margarine is high in polyunsaturated fats which causes inflammation in the body. The vegetable oils have a higher ratio of omega-6 to omega-3 fats and this ratio increases the risk of cancer and heart disease. Other health hazards include raising bad LDL and decreasing the good HDL cholesterol, increased risk of coronary heart disease, decreased fertility, increased blood insulin and diabetes risk.

I’d like to clarify an important issue concerning butter: not all butter are the same.

 

The best butter come from cars that have been fed on grass (grass-fed), haven’t been injected with hormones and antibiotics. Cows that have been fed with other food don’t have the correct ratio of omega-6 to omega -3. The wrong ratio  causes inflammation in the body when such cows products are consumed.

 

It’s a good idea to always check on the packet of the butter you buy that it’s made from the milk of cows that are grass fed and were not injected with hormones and antibiotics like Kerry gold butter. Such healthy butter are also good for cooking.

 

Another healthy product you can get for cooking and for the skin is ghee. Ghee is nutrients densed and contains natural oils like: butter, coconut oil, avocado oil,and  sesame seed oil. Ghee has a high smoking point, hence don’t break down into harmful substances and toxins when heated up. Vegetable oils break down into these harmful substances when  heated to high temperatures.

 

Pastured butter (butter from cows that were fed on grass and moved around on green pasture)—according to recent studies— is protective against cancer, arthritis, obesity, asthma and other diseases.

We need to understand that the human body has been designed by the creator like a perfect machine that grows, develops, repairs, reproduces only if it’s provided with the right foods and right quality. If we keep consuming man made foods that have no place in the body then we reap the consequences of chronic illnesses and diseases. Who gains from these processed foods? The food industry who profits! Who pays the big price with ill health from consuming unnatural, chemically laden foods? The consumers!!! Let’s smell the coffee and go back to eating natural and fresh foods; foods as nature provided or created them.

HEALTH HAZARDS OF SUGAR CONSUMPTION

Is sugar harmful really? That’s the big question I’m looking into in this article.
Let’s first define sugar so we can get a better understanding:
Sugar belongs to the food group called carbohydrates which are responsible for providing the body with energy.

There are different types of sugars. For example:

1.) Sucrose which is known as table sugar and is actually the subject of this article.
2.) Glucose which is the major fuel for the body cells.
3.) Fructose which is from fruits.
4.) Galactose which is found in animals.
5.) Lactose which is from milk.

 

Many foods are converted to glucose in the body; and, the glucose in the blood is called Blood Glucose.

 

When you consume sugar or regular carbohydrates and it’s digested, as a result, glucose is released, absorbed from the alimentary canal into the bloodstream. Hence, the rise in blood glucose. Immediately, there’s an outflow of hormones which include insulin from the pancreas into the bloodstream to lower glucose levels which helps convert the monosaccharide called glucose into a polysaccharide called Glycogen as a result.

 

This glycogen is the stored in the liver and muscles for future use when blood glucose levels run low. When the levels in liver and muscles are too high then it’s stored as Fat.

 

Sucrose (table sugar) is a disaccharide which is made up of one unit each of fructose and glucose. It’s actually the fructose part that’s responsible for the numerous undesirable and harmful effects on our health.

 

Unfortunately, the consumption of sucrose over the years has increased therfore increasing the rate people develop many diseases. The more you consume  the more you open your body to a range of chronic illnesses such as; Diabetes, Arthritis, High blood pressure, High cholesterol levels, Cardiovascular diseases, inflammatory diseases and the dreads Cancer. Yes, cancer loves and feeds on sugar.

 

Sugar isn’t just that simple attractive sweet, it actually has unique effects on the body that’s different from other carbohydrates. Though sugar is a carbohydrate, it’s totally different from eating starch which is another type of carbohydrate. Human beings don’t physiologically require sugar, as nutritional needs can be met in full in our diets without taking a single spoon of white, brown or raw sugar. Secondly, if only people knew a small fraction of the effects of sucrose, they wouldn’t touch it.

A small paper cup of a popular soft drink contains 22 sachets of sugar. The larger cup contains about 44 sachets. Almost all processed foods are loaded with sugar. About 74% of it is hiding in packaged foods. Most breakfast cereals are just sugar coated with a few grains of wheat or rice or corn.

 

There are about 61 different names for sugar hidden by manufacturers in foods:
Barley malt, dextrose, maltose, rice syrup , malt syrup , high fructose corn syrup , beet sugar, cane juice crystals, caramel, corn sweetener, corn syrup , diastase, ethyl maltol, golden syrup, maltodextrin, panela (raspadura) etc.

 

Fructose in fruits is still fructose, so, there’s a need to monitor how much very sweet fruits you consume.

Pineapple, watermelon are quite sweet.
Sugar can be deadly, especially with the rise in consumption over the years and the proportionate rise in chronic illnesses.
